About the Presa Canario
The Presa Canario, also known as the Dogo Canario or Canary Mastiff, hails from the autonomous region of the Canary Islands, primarily Gran Canaria and Tenerife. This large, muscular dog has a rich history: it was traditionally used as a guard dog, for herding sheep and cattle, and even in dog fighting (which was legal in Spain until 1936). Despite its close brush with extinction in the 1960s, the breed made a comeback and gained official recognition in Spain in 2001. Its imposing presence and natural protective instincts contribute to its growing popularity worldwide. Learn more
