About the Australian Shepherd
The Australian Shepherd, often called the “Aussie,” is a versatile and intelligent dog breed. Despite their name, Aussies didn’t originate in Australia; they came from the Basque region of Spain and were later developed in the United States. These medium-sized dogs excel in various roles, from herding livestock to performing tricks in rodeos. Aussies often have striking heterochromia (two different-colored eyes) and a one-in-five chance of being born with a naturally bobbed tail. Their thick, rugged coats come in colors like blue merle, red merle, red, and black. Learn more
