| my mini doxie just had her first litter on November. she is a little over three years. she has false pregnancies often. at the advice of our vet we bred her once but hse was such a wonderful mommy and had such a healthy a beautiful litter we want to breed her again. how long after her last litter should we wait to breed again. should we skip a season. we want to do what would be healthiest and safest for her

| I have been breeding Bullmastiffs for over 30 years and have always followed the practice of a year between litters. This was the time reccommended to me by a close friend who is a vet and a breeder. Also no more than 3 litters total if there were c-sections needed. My bitches have had very few health problems and usually live to be 10 to 14. I think this would probably hold true with a smaller breed also. Rose

Each dog is different and you should use your own judgement if you think she is mature enough to breed. Or you may also get your vets opinion. I have been breeding dachshunds for over 15 years old. I usually breed on second heat depending on the lengths in between and how old they are. They are anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 years old. I will only breed a female a few times and she is retired by 5 yrs. I have never had any problems with something going wrong or having to care fo the puppies myself because of it either. As already stated it is best to use a smaller stud. Just do your research Wishing you the best Dachshunds are great
