| Whelping box question

| What do you use in your whelping box. Ive used wood chips but i find it gets into everything water dishes food eyes etc. Ive used newspaper but didnt like that either. When theyre first born I use a quilt with washable absorbant pads. IWhen they go outsid I use straw in the outside kennel for bedding. I should mention I breed Bernese Mountain Dogs. Suggestions would be great.

Carpet is good in the box nail it down and then newspaper on top I change the newspaper daily.
