| Studding my Maltese for the first time

| I am not sure how to get started. I have heard that the bitches can sometimes be mean and can hurt the male dog. I could use some pointers and some general info.

| The safest way to avoid accidents in breeding is to muzzle the female, you can introduce them to each other and see the reaction, if there is any sign of aggression she should be muzzled.

I too am thinking of letting my Maltese return to his former career as a stud dog. He is almost 7. I know nothing about studding as we were selected by the breeder to adopt him -and promised to let him breed at least once for economical companion pups - therefore we do not have official paperwork other than photos of him with trophies ribbons awards etc. in his days of being a profit generating show dog.
What shuold I know - I do not want to be a backyard breeder but I did agree to let him stud for affordable puppies.
He has been on an HMO plan with the vets since we adopted him when he was about 5 years old so he gets monthly check ups is always current health wise.
Thanks
Here is a photo of his daughter Paddington Bear born from Monkey our little black Yorkie Poo last Feb 3 2006 the pup is now 9 pounds - her parents snow white Bubba is 7 pounds and mom Monkey is 6 pounds. Paddy snuck into an off-limits room because she snatched play money from the play purse of my then 8 yr old daughter and thought she was getting away with some puppy prank Comical
