| STUD RIGHTS...
| |
| Hi Im very new to this stud thing. Ok Im buyin a puppy from someone he wants Stud Rights to him. What does that mean? He said he can come get my dog after he turns a year old and breed him with whom ever he wants for a price that I am not getting anything out of? He said he can take him up to 3 times a year for a 2 weeks at a time. Where do I find out or learn more about these Stud Rights to this dog?

| Stud rights to a puppy must always be in writting at the time of sale. Be aware of the the cost to you in the long run for this puppy. Does the breeder require you to have shown and finished the dogs championship prior to using him as a stud? If so this may go into the thousands odf dollars. Reputable breeders who are looking out for the interest of the breed try to find the BEST stud dog available to enhance the next generation not simply a male who is free to them for use. This also goes for contingent puppies back from one or all litters delivered from a female you may purchase. Think of it this way- you pay $1000 for an English Bulldog which is 1/2 the average cost BUT you must then breed your puppy possibly having to pay the cost of the stud dog another $1000. and one or more ofthe puppies back to the breeder $4000-10000 plus the cost of the C section and your time. I have been a breeder since 1972 and have seen many breeders come and go thinking they will get rich. I have yet to show a profit but my dogs are shown in AKC and Canadian KC shows have all the available medical testing and certifications. The goal is to produce a litter of puppies that were better than the one before this cannot be done by simply using any male that happens to be free for use or lives next door. Read. go to show talk with breeders and dont sign contract that will in the long run cost you and your pup heart ache. The right puppy will come along with a ribbon and without the red tape
