| Question about American Bulldogs Being purebred

| I bought an American Bulldog,when i got the papers she is registed with the VBA Victorian Bulldog Assocation.They sent me her birth certificate. Ive never owned a pure bred dog before and just thought thats were all bulldogs were registered at. Then someone told me that she isnt pure bred unless she is registered with the AKC or ABA. My wife suprised me with the whole situation,so I didnt get a chance to do my homework on buying a purebred.
