| We have a pug that had 6 pups and all of them were doing fine. Then we noticed that the 2nd born was not growing with the others. Even the runt pasted it by at 3 weeks of age. I just had vet checks done and the vet thinks it has hydrocephalus water on the brain due to open fonte plate. She thinks this was either due to the mother just not having enough room for all the pups to develop at the same rate or that some sort of trama occured after birth.... has anyone ever had a pup like this? We are keeping him because of his condition. The vet said and I have read that most pups like this will only last 4 months to 2 years before dying of heart failure. There have been miracles but this is the usual scenario. Has anyone out their dealt with a puppy like this? I dont like the idea of a shunt for his brain. Too many complications. But is there any pain with this condition? I would like to give him a chance at life but not if hes going to be in pain Hope to hear some one elses stories about this condition.

I am sorry to hear about your puppy. Being a nurse I know what symptoms it produces in people. It sounds as if it is severe if they are talking about a shunt. Yes the surgery hurts. The is a high risk of seizures prior to surgery do to the increased pressure in the brain. I do know that patients will complain of headaches because of the pressure. I would think that animals would probably have the same. Are you taking your Dam and Sire out of your breeding program? Being this is congenital all the puppies they produce will carry the gene. I do hope your puppy doesnt suffer...I know this has to be an emotional rollercoaster.
