| Start researching the breed. Go to shows talk to breeders either show your dogs get titles on them or if they are of good quality find good quality dogs. Find a breeder that will mentor you in showing and breeding. Find out what genetic issues run in the breed and what type of health testing you need to do.

| The best first step is to buy some books on whelping a litter I bought mine at Barnes and Nobles. Most whelping books give great advice on how to start by finding ethical breeders to obtain your breeding stock...AKC dog shows are one of the best places to meet good breeders. Also reading up on the yorkie breed and their specific standard is also important as well as genetic and health related issues in the breed.
There is an endless supply of information online just google yorkie breeders and most good breeders web pages have links to great information about the breed... you may want to find your local kennel club organization and join that is a great way to learn the best ways to prepare for all things involved with being a good breeder.

| You should not start breeding for a business. A person should not begin breeding until they first have a good understanding of the breed. You should start by developing a passion for the breed and try to learn as much as you can from many sources. It is important to know what you are breeding for and it would be best to study under an experienced local breeder of the same breed.

Just by the way you asked the question I would suggest you try another type of profession. There are enough puppy mills out there already and another is not needed. Sorry, but dogs are not a business they are a way of life for most of us that breed responsibly.
