| Heat Question - no heat for 9 months

| My border collie female was born April 2007, and had her first seasonheat in March 2008.
My problem is that she doesnt seem to have had a season since then, in Sep/Oct my male showed some mild interest in sniffing her, but there was a dog next door that was in heat. She didnt bleed at all, so I dont think she was in heat.
At this point should I be worried? or is this normal?
She is a very healthy and active dog, very lean and musclular. I was hoping to breed her in 2010, after her second birthday when I can get her hips done.

| you say no heat for 9 months...but from 2008 to 2010 is almost 2 years...is this correct or error?
9 months can be quite normal. average is 5-8 months for most dogs but we have seen dogs go up to 1 year with no heat. for some breeds it is normal. i would sugggest a thyroid profile to make sure not hypothyroid. dogs with low thyroids can have long anestrus and difficulty getting pregnant.

| Crap, sorry, I got the years mixed up with my boy, he was born in 2007.
Kari was born in April 2008, and had her first season in March 2009, and had not had a heat since then.
If she has not come into season within the next couple of months I will take her to the vet and see what they think.

| sounds good. i wonder if she did have a silent heat back when your male showed interest in october. in active working breeds, heats can go longer in lenght. when you see vet, not bad idea to make appointment with a repo specialist vet. good luck

| Thank you for the help.
We live on alot of acreage in the country with horses, and Kari gets alot of exercise. Shes a very lean, musclular dog, and perfectly healthy in every other way.
Maybe it was a silent heat, or shes just one of those that has longer periods between heats.
I will update this topic when she does come in, or when I take her to the vet.

| Well I didnt have to wait long, I found some spots of blood in the snow today, checked Kari and she is bleeding.
So its looks like she went 9/10 months without a season, I wonder if this will be her normal time period, or if it will change next time.
