| AI=artificial insemination???
| |
| I have a little over 2yr old large breed stud and I was contacted by someone that said his female needed to do this procedure because she is 6 yrs old and wont let a male mount her. Well what I want to know is just how is this done if not in a vets office? He seemed a little odd when talking to him. I just want to stay away from the sickos. any info on this subject would be appreciated. thanks

| artificial insemination is done when natural breedings cannot be done for whatever reason. an experienced vet, breeder, or vet tech might be able to help with this proceedure. it is quite often used in breeds such as english bulldogs. proper tests for ovulation should be performed to know when best to inseminate. 6 years old is up there for a first time bitch. careful with her getting pyometria.

| the male is collected into a sterile vial/syringe or artificial vagina. the semen is then introduced vaginally via a cathether or artificial insemination breeding straw. sterile and clean techniques should be used. the female is then held elevated by her rear end for 15-30 minutes. should be done only by someone experienced and knows canine anatomy.
