Catahoula puppies, which are sometimes referred to as Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dogs, are herding dogs. Known for their amazing agility and stamina, these dogs are practically made for herding and guarding livestock. They're extremely protective and territorial and so make great guard dogs as well. They're affectionate to their owners but sometimes shy and weary of strangers. They need lots of leadership and firm handling to flourish into happy, healthy members of the family. Physically, Catahoula puppies become dogs of medium to large stature, weighing in at almost 70 pounds on average and up to 26 inches in height. The coat of a Catahoula can be blue, red, or white.
