who gets the rest of the litter?
I have a male husky and I am thinking about studs. Whether I choose pick of the litter or a fee, does the other person with the female get the rest of the pups?

THE OWNER OF THE FEMALE GETS THE WHOLE LITTER AND ITHER PAYS A STUD FEE OR A PICK OF THE LITTER THE FEMALE IS WHAT GOES THROUGH THE PREGNANCY AND LABOUR AND 8 WEEKS OF LOOKING AFTER THE PUPS THATS WHY IT IS ALMOST EASIER TO HAVE A STUD CAUSE YOU MAKE MONEY IN ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND THEN THERES NO ATTACHMENT.....

I DO OUT A STUD CONTRACT AND HAVE ALL MONEY UP-FRONT BEFORE I DO THE BREEDING. LIKE I EXPLAIN TO THE BITCH OWNER ONCE BRED CANT STOP THE PROCESS... SO ALWAYS GET ALL TERMS ESTABLISHED BEFORE THE BREEDING.

When you make out the Stud Contract... Whether you are in two different states or not... And you specifically state you get 1st. pick of the litter make it very plain in your Stud Contract - You will not sign the Litter Application until after you get your pick of the litter. Without your signature on the Litter Application it keeps the bitch owner from selling at better prices. By doing this it secures your chances of the bitch owner living up to the Stud Contract Agreement.

Yes The Stud Dog owner makes out the Contract. You must both agree to all terms then sign the Contract. Unfortunately a contract does not completely protect you. A bitch owner once the service is paid for has the right for you to sign the Litter application your part because that is what the service they are paying for. But you at least with a Stud Contract have a better chance of having them follow the agreement. Remember you should pick out your puppy about 6 weeks of age. You cant just hold up the rest of the litter from being sold as you are deciding on your puppy. Legally puppies cannot be sold given etc. away until 8 weeks of age. I hope this helps you on deciding how to make out terms of an agreement.

GO TO THE WEB-SITE www.thedogsbestfriend.com - click on Dog Breeders. This site has Stud Dog Contracts plus it explains the very important rules regarding AKC. Remember you must follow all AKC rules regarding signing Litter Applications. You cant hold the bitch owner hostage just because they did not follow your Stud Contract.

Yes the bitch owner gets the rest of the litter. A simple contract would consist of wording to the effect of stud owner has a set number of weeks to choose their pup for payment from the litter.. I recently contracted for a stud for one of my bitch boxers. Stud owner and I both worked out the wording of the contract together thru months of emails.. and finally settled on 4 weeks from whelping for stud owner to pick their payment puppy.. ALL LEGAL .. all -binding.. and working well for me and the stud owner.. I still have plenty of time to advertise since my pups are not released to new owners until at least 8 weeks.. I still have 4 full weeks to advertise the remaining pups of the litter and get deposits paid..

Has anyone ever heard of the stud fee being half of the litter? There were four puppies and the owner of the stud thinks she should get half the litter. Is this crazy or am I crazy in my thinking.

nope never heard of anything like this before.. its always either ONE pup for payment for stud service fee or a set fee moneywise.. I have a litter of 11 boxer pups from the contracted stud service I spoke about earlier in this post and the stud owner choser her ONE puppy... she got first choice....

Stud Service is a legal contact that is entered into by the Stud dog owner and the owner of the bitch. After breeding and showing dogs for over 35 years, I require a progesterone test to determine time of ovulation and a brucellosis test to protect my male- one infected female and your dog can no longer be safely used on other females- sexually transmitted disease is the same in dogs as in humans. I rarely take a puppy back- what if the bitch only has one and it is not the quality you want, the contract stand and you are stuck with an unwanted puppy. I receive stud payment up front and do not guarantee a live puppy they are paying for the service and semen. If the female does not produce at least one live puppy at birth I will offer a free return service to the same female, then the contract is complete whether or not she has a puppy. I have thousands of dollars in my two stud dogs and only breed to approved females that will better t he breed. Remember the female comes to you and you are responsible for her health and safety while in your care. When possible have the female’s owner there to help hold her during the process a bitch who does not know you and standing for service CAN bite. A Yorkie can be just as hard to breed as a German Sheppard. Be careful and No children should be around this will distract the male from what he is there for and many females are not at all happy with the event.

The above posting is correct as far as it goes. If the Stud dog owner agrees to a puppy back and it needs to be specified as to which puppy -First pick Second Pick Third Pick etc The the stud dog owner recives no mioney but does get a puppy- no money. This really becomes a problem it there is only one pup and it is not the gender/ or quality the stud dog owner wanted. He or she is stuck with a possibly inferior or sick puppy and the contract has been met. Much easier to get a stud fee paid and buty a puppy from the dams litter if you see you that is what you want. Remember we are doing this to inprove our breed and our own pedigree. Doris
