| My dog is a pure wiemeriener and he is about be 6 months. I am interested in studding him out. Please reply with basics. I am new at this and will wait until he is at least one year. my questions are simple as is to how many times can you or should stud him out. what to look for in a bitch, the process, how you get the pick of the litter(who holds the pup) and so on...

| First of all, the dogs hips have to be good for breeding and the temperment of the male should have no faults. The male can be used as a stud unlimited times as long as the male can breed. The female has to have good hips and a sound temperment. The owner of the female is responsible to take care and raise the puppies; the owner of the stud decides on whether they want to charge a stud fee or take the pick of the litter. To choose the pick of the litter you need to have knowledge of the breed standard and experience. It is not easy to select the pick when you do not know what you are looking for. Some owners look for structure while others look for temperment. There is no rule as to what age you can stud your male, except in some countries the male is required to have a title. If you want the puppies to have AKC papers, both parents should already have AKC papers.

| I too have a weimaraner male that I am offering for stud for the first time this year. He is 5 AKC registered but hold no titles due to the facr I wasnt interested in showing or promoting him as a show prospect producer. There are also a lot of regulations show dog breeders place and require of the owner of the bitch they are looking to find a stud for. As for as the basics that is based on personal preference and what youre looking to achieve via your breeding program. I personally dont feel Weimaraners are mature enough emotionally and developmentally to offer breeding services although alot of breeders do. I would suggest you visit a wonderful websit called showdogsupersite.com/kenlclub/breedvet/nvai.html... it is loaded with great advice from vets and breeders related to lots of topics concerning breeding. The most important thing to consider is protecting the health of your stud dog from contracting infections and requesting a pre-screening health status info from the interested owners of the bitch. You will also want to have your stud dog checked for certain things too. Check the site out You wont be sorry and you will find loads of information you never would have thought to ask or knew and sample contracts to reveiw to give you ideas of how to go about setting up your service contract and with what terms. Which again is totally a personal preference. Good luck feel free to contact me directly if you want. Lhochrine@aol.com or 610-837-3113.. Lisa

| A stud dog has to be of value to the Breed. He needs to be titled and proven, just because he is of good pedigree does not mean that he is a good dog. Focus on titling your dog, make him a champion first and then stud him out. You might think he is the most handsome male out there, but so does every other owner. Dont set yourself up for disappointments

| what does your dog have to offer that TOP dogs of his breed do not??
there are too many un wanted PUREBRED DOGS
think about it.
is he a champion in the ring
in the field, does he win at obedience rallys?
what is it,
you want another one of him or just the money???
if and when i do breed it will be to IMPROVE the breed. i imported 2 of the BEST QUALITY puppys i could. they are trained 2/3 times a week
they have NO faults. what does your dog bring to the table other than being a purebred???????
