| In have a 7 year old healthy Golden Retriever with all updated vaccinations and have decided to stud him out. Do I need to get a formal contract form to fill out with the females owner?

I listed my 5 year old Bloodhound on the stud site months ago and have had no serious inquiries. He is a beautiful dog and has thrown amazing litters but I am having no luck at all. Any ideas on how to market him any better.

| I consider a stud contract a necessity before doing a breeding. This covers all the terms of the agreement. Amount of fee or if a puppy is chosen instead of a fee whether it will be first or second pick and age of pups when choice is to be made.It should include the full names and registry numbers of the dogs. Will a repeat breeding be given if no pregnancy results and what is the time limit for the repeat breeding next heat or within a year? What if only one pup is born alive and the breeding was done for a puppy instead of a stud fee. Both parties should keep a signed and dated copy of the contract.

| To increase interest in a stud dog it is important to let people know of special traits he has that would be an asset to the gene pool. Has he been OFA certified any obedience titlesconformation titles tracking or herding titles etc according to the breed.

| Yes you definitely need a signed contract Its important that both parties are agreeing to the same terms. Ive even had a situation where we had to redo the terms during the breeding. We ended up spending an extra day of breeding that we didnt plan on for an AI. On marketing I would go post ad to your local vets and also vet offices that specialize in your specific breeds.

| A stud dog has to be of value to the Breed. He needs to be titled and proven, just because he is of good pedigree does not mean that he is a good dog. Focus on titling your dog, make him a champion first and then stud him out. You might think he is the most handsome male out there, but so does every other owner. Dont set yourself up for disappointments

| YES contracts and more contracts.... this will save you money and stress later on. I use contracts in every aspect of my life. When breeding you need to be professional and keep all records
