| What kind of dog food are you feeding? Dry kibble helps keep the tartar to a minimum. I also feed raw bones that help scrape the teeth clean.

| How old is your pup. If she is over 6 months she should not be eating puppy food. I dont feed my pups puppy food past 12 weeks. A lot of breeders do not feed it at all.

| I have found Daily Oral Care by HPN to be helpful to eliminate doggie breath. It is a tasteless odorless liquid that works in your pet’s water to freshen breath naturally without the use of artificial ingredients or harsh chemicals.or harsh chemicals. You can see it at
http//www.healthypetnet.com/HealthyPetNet/Catalog/ProductDetail.aspx?realname=40036026ProductID=101060
Its not expensive and all natural ingredients and they dont even know their water has been treated with anything

| Ok as a vet tech let me first say NO RAW BONES. They are likely to splinter and can pierce the digestive tract or lodge in the tract causing blockage There are too many safe alternatives out on the market to feed bones anymore. It is correct to say that dry kibble can help reduce tartar build-up. However there iare no significant reasons to switch a puppy from puppy food to adult food for dental health and it is much healthier to keep a puppy on puppy food until they have reached maturity The best way to keep a dogs mouth health is to teach them from the time they are young to accept swiping a gauze or a brush across their teeth. You can use a commercial DOG toothpaste or wipes or a chlorihexidine solution to wipe the teeth. You can pick away tartar buildup with your finger nails. If your dog still has bad breath or you still can not reduce tartar buildup you may need to have your veterinarian have a dental. Dental health in dogs is important as neglected teeth can become painful and loose and the bacteria in the tartar can circulate in the blood stream stressing the immune system and in severe cases can damage the heart and lungs.

| I have been breeding dogs for 30 years. My all dogs have beautiful teeth. I even had a rescue ask me what I did because they had never had a dog come in with teeth as clean as mine. I feed raw meat and bones. In the summer I only feed what they will eat in a short amount of time. You can refrigerate the bones again. But if in doubt throw it out Bad meat and bones are no better for your dog than they are for you. Also make sure the bones are large enough not to splinter or be swallowed. If your dog has bad breath it could be a bad tooth or teeth. Have your vet check to see if that is the problem.

| I agree with the person that says that raw bones will help teeth. Just make sure that they are large enough to not be eaten only chewed on. That means they should be type that contain marrow and from beef usually for the average person. I have sheep and so I give sheep bones but I live on a farm and raise sheep and Border Collies so I can have my butcher prepare the carcass the way I want. But there is now a product that actually works I have found PetzLife Oral Care Gel actually does do what it says. Use it with something that you dog will chew on and in 30 days you will be astonished at how white and clean their teeth get. All of us agility people are finding out about this stuff and sharing with each other how it wonderfully it works. You can get it at places like Petsmart or even on line just Google it. I got in a rescue with HORRIBLE tooth tartar and in 30 days the dog didnt need a tooth cleaning any more and the teeth looked like they belonged to a one year old dog Its not expensive either.
